This is the nose region of a Eurasian Beaver (Castor fiber) skull. The intricate and complex nasal bones allow the beaver to have an excellent sense of smell. The front incisor teeth are missing from this skull.

The Eurasian beaver was hunted by humans to it's near extinction primarly for it's soft fur and musk scented secreations called castoreum. While, to date, no evidence of beaver has been found in Ireland there have been successful reintroductions to Scotland, parts of France, southern Germany and Austria. Beaver has been found in the archaeological record in Scotland and in November 2016, the Scottish populations was formally recognised as a native species.

This is a black and white image, printed on professional FineArt photography photorag paper using LUCIA pigment inks, which combined have an age resistance for up to 80+ years if kept out of direct UV light.

The print is unframed and images are printed with a white border to facilitate framing. Deckle edged prints are available as custom orders. Please contact me directly and also for other larger custom sizes.
